Senior pets are special pets! As medical advances have been made and awareness increased, our pets are living longer. With that comes the chance that more medical problems can develop. Senior pets should be seen at least once every 6-12 months and any concerns should be brought up to one of our veterinarians as soon as you are aware of a problem. During these visits, specific tests may be done, or management plans discussed, and a program can be developed specifically for your pet.

When does a dog become a senior?

This can vary based on breed. Generally speaking, large or giant breed dogs age faster and may be considered seniors at 5-6 years old. For small or toy breed dogs, the age of seniority rises to 10-12 years old.

What are common senior dog health issues?

Common issues seen in pets often include kidney disease, arthritis, diabetes, dental disease, and eye problems to name a few.
