Keeping your cat at their ideal weight range and size with a safe diet regimen.
A few extra pounds can be a significant factor in the overall health of your pet. Most weight problems can be avoided or managed through proper feeding amounts and/or diet types. A large part of it really is portion control!
It’s important not to focus so much on the number on the scale as it is to consider the Body Condition Score (BCS) of your pet. We use a 5 scale, where 3/5 is considered ideal and healthy. You should be able to see a bit of a waist on your pet.
The most important tip is to feed a measured portion per day and not exceed that amount. Additionally, meal times and separate feedings for a multi-pet household are recommended. Feeding a properly balanced diet for your cat’s appropriate life stage can help manage weight conditions.
If you have concerns about your pet being overweight, this is an ideal opportunity to meet with one of our technicians or veterinarians to discuss diet type, feeding amount, meal schedule, and exercise level. Together, we can develop a weight loss program to help your pet achieve a healthy weight and ultimately live a better life!
