With compassion, pet euthanasia offers a tender farewell, bringing relief from pain and discomfort.
Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy. Your reasons for saying goodbye are your own, and we are here to support you in that time.
The term euthanasia literally means “good death.” Fortunately for our pets, we do not have to let them suffer from a serious condition and can ease their discomfort. The time is different for everyone and will depend on a number of factors that one of our veterinarians can talk with you about. We are here to guide you in deciding when it’s time to say goodbye.
After you have had time to say your goodbyes to your pet, your family veterinarian will administer a drug very similar to an anesthetic. It is a very quick, painless, and peaceful procedure.
We do not offer in-home euthanasia through the clinic. There is a house-call veterinarian in the Kingston region who only focuses on helping you say goodbye in the comfort of your own home. We will be happy to give you their contact information if this is of interest to you. Please note they typically do not work on an emergency or on-call basis, and a time must be set up in advance.
You certainly can be with your pet to comfort them during their final moments. Depending on their medical state, we may request to sedate them to make the experience less stressful for them. An IV catheter will also be placed to help make the experience run more smoothly.
Please contact us at the clinic by phone or email to discuss this. It will vary depending on what you wish to do with your pet’s remains after they are gone. We offer communal or private cremation.
We do not provide counselling in the clinic but are able to give you the contact information for groups that can help you through the grieving process.
